Getting to know Jesus

Today I woke up feeling mundane; a word that the Holy Spirit put in my spirit. why? I didn't know how to describe my feelings this morning. This is a word that I don't commonly use so I googled it. According to Dictionary.com, the definition for mundane:

1.  of or pertaining to this world or earth as contrasted with heaven; worldly; earthly: mundane affairs. 
2.  common; ordinary; banal; unimaginative.
3.  of or  pertaining to the world, universe, or earth.

Now I know that I felt this way because I would be meditating on the life of Jesus as a teenager. I want a closer relationship with Jesus, and since he came to earth and walked in human form; I wanted to know what it must have been like for him. I don't know about you, but for me being a teenager was hard. What I got from my time with Jesus this morning was to fellowship with my heavenly father at all times. Discuss every aspect of my life with him. This will keep me on tract with the things I need to do to continue living a christian life.

I used Luke 2:51-52 from The New American Bible, "51 He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus advanced [in] wisdom and age and favor before God and man."  I must state here that this isn't the only passage I used during the last few weeks to get to know Jesus. It's the one that drew things together for me. The majority of verses came from Luke.  What I discovered was a very human Jesus that came down from heaven to save us and along the way showed examples.

I don't usually use background music, but today I did. The Gregorian Melodies Popular Chants-my introduction to Benedictine Monks- brought the spirit of Jesus that I always feel when I enter church.

Jesus

Today I visited blogs in my circle. Many had scripture and I got the message. Then I went to youtube; start looking through gospel artist. I see this video, "Jesus" by LeAndria Johnson. I had never heard of her before today. You may ask where have I been? Everything in God's timing brothers and sisters. While listening to this video, I started thinking just how many times have I called on the name of Jesus. I thank Jesus,  ask for blessings, and pray to him. How many times have you called on Jesus.

I finally came to a song that said it all, Jesus Paid It All by Fernando Ortega. This song brought it home for me.

Lead Me

I just heard this today, and I was inspired. My journey is to constantly search Jesus, and his plan for me. I ask everyone to pray for the tradgey in Newtown, Connecticut. I pray that more people are led to Jesus. I ran across Jonathan Butler just surfing. I found him refreshing

Twice A Bride by Mona Hodgson

Author Mona Hodgson places this historical fiction, Twice A Bride, in Cripple Creek, Colorado during the fall of 1898. Hodgson manages to draw her reader into the story line using the language, details, and actual places of the times. Cripple Creek is a fairly new community where most of the settler’s fled west in hopes of a better life. Twice A Bride is the last novel in the Sinclair Sisters of Cripple Creek series. The first three books are centered on the arrival of the Sinclair sisters. Hodgson brought back Willow Peterson-sister-in-law of Ida Sinclair-Raines for her protagonist.

 The story starts with Peterson in a state of shock after losing a husband and father. She is looking for a fresh start without wanting to be a burden on anyone. The one thing Peterson has on her side is that she is an artist, through her craft she meets a new photographer in town, Trenton Van Der Veer, and romance sparks. From this union Peterson starts her own business, Portraits by Willow. The reader will be introduced or reunited with the Sinclair sisters and other town’s people as they interact in each other’s lives. Hodgson portrays a God fearing community with God interacting in the lives of each character.

 This is an excellent book for group study, because at the end of the book there is a reader’s guide. The guide is equipped with 10 situations and questions pertaining to the situations. The book is equipped with bible verses and appropriate Christian etiquette. The author’s notes at the end of the book discuss the real life people and places in the series. I enjoyed reading this book: it was an easy read. I look forward to reading other books by Mona Hodgson. I received a copy free from Waterbook Multnamah in exchange for my honest review.
